NANCY SCARBROUGH ACKERMAN
Nancy Ackerman began painting in the early 80’s, taking several acrylic folk art classes.  Later she operated a home based gift basket design business for several years while managing a full time job and raising her son and daughter. After her children were grown she retired from a 30 year career with the State of Georgia.
In 2010 Nancy began painting again taking weekly classes from Debbie Harris. She moved to Northeast Georgia and landed in an entire community of talented artists, and became involved with the Helen Arts & Heritage Center, first as a member volunteer and then began taking classes.
Over the years she has worked in oils, acrylic, watercolor, mixed media, pottery, fused glass, and jewelry making. Nancy uses the palette knife primarily in many of her paintings which are filled with vibrant colors.  One of her paintings was selected as the cover image of the 2014 issue of “The Scoop Magazine”, a White County News publications.  Nancy was the featured artistic the 2014 Holiday Exhibit at the Helen Gallery and was the featured artist February of this year at Habersham Community Theater in Clarksville, Georgia. Her work is currently on display in the galleries at Sautee Nacoochee Center, inSide-Out Sautee, Helen Arts & Heritage Center, and in many private collections.
Nancy is an active member of the Arts Center serving as past Vice President, and is the current President.  She is a member of the Sautee Nacoochee Center, HAHC Painter’s Guild, Chattahoochee United Methodist Church, President of the CUMC Women’s Group, and the Georgia State Patrol Retirees Association
Nancy resides in Helen with her husband, Rick.  “I believe we are given opportunities each day for personal growth whether it is through sharing, teaching, volunteering, listening, or more.  We impact the lives of others when we make time to interact, showing kindness, love and compassion.”
